Infection Prevention and Control – Covid-19

Infection control has and always will be a top priority in our practice. We follow strict guidelines and protocols made by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO), Peel Public
Health (PPH), the Ontario Dental Association (ODA), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This allows us to ensure that our infection control protocols are up-to-date and enables us to provide the safest environment for you and your loved ones.

APPOINTMENT PROTOCOL & WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

We ask that you please be patient and understand that we will do our best to accommodate your scheduling needs as we know many of you are anxious to get back into the office. Here are some
guidelines that we will require you to follow, in order to promote optimal safety during your appointment.

  • Appointments will be spaced out to allow physical distancing between patients. It will also allow time for our treatment rooms to be disinfected between each appointment. That can also mean might mean less flexibility for scheduling your appointment
  • Before your appointment and once again when you arrive at the dental office, we will ask you questions to see if you have any COVID-19 symptoms or have been in contact with anyone who has either tested positive for COVID-19 or may have been exposed to COVID-19.Your temperature will be taken with a touch-less infrared thermometer when you arrive for your appointment. Once you are seated in the treatment room, your oxygen levels + heart rate will also be taken.
  • PLEASE stay home if you have flu-like symptoms (fever, cough or difficulty breathing, loss of smell or taste) or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19. Patients who are sick and have an upcoming dental appointment should call their dental office to report symptoms, reschedule or ask about other care options.
  • You will be asked to wear a mask or face covering while in the office except during treatment.
  • Dental staff will be wearing more protective gear than normal. We have supplied all staff, including Dr. Girn himself, with the required PPE to ensure optimal safety.
  • Plan to come alone. There are exceptions for small children and people who require assistance. If a parent or caregiver is allowed, they will also be subject to all screening measures.
  • You may be asked to wait outside the office and call when you arrive. You’ll be notified when you can enter.
  • We have placed spot markers on the floors to indicate to patient’s where they can stand while in the office, these markers are 6 ft apart.
  • Patients must wash their hands with a 70- to 90-per cent alcohol-based solution, or soap and water, when entering and leaving the office.
  • We will be dealing with emergency appointments first.
  • Our waiting rooms and bathrooms will not be in service until further notice, to avoid any unnecessary contact with other patients.
  • Plexiglass has been installed at the front desk and admin offices to minimize exposure to airborne pathogens and reduce person-to-person contact.
  • High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance (HEPA) air purifiers have been installed in each operatory to help improve air quality. Each operatory is isolated using industrial plastics to prevent potential airborne pathogens from travelling between the operatories.
  • If you are over the age of 60 or have pre-existing health conditions, including but not limited to: diabetes, chronic lung disease or asthma, serious heart conditions, are immunocompromised, or chronic kidney or liver disease, we recommend you do not visit the office at this time for your own safety to prevent any potential exposure.
  • We are currently not taking any walk-in appointments. A pre-screening COVID-19 test needs to be completed via phone/email prior to booking any appointments.

We value your trust and loyalty and the fact that your oral health is important to you as it is to us, and look forward to welcoming you and your family back into our office. We would like to take
this opportunity to let you know that we are taking every required and recommended precaution by the RCDSO, PPH, ODA, and OSHA to promote optimal patient and staff safety.

We thank you for your patience with us during the past few months and thank you in advance for understanding and complying with the new protocols stated but not limited to the above.
